A declaration of independence from colon cancer

We hold these truths to be self evident:

That 3,000 Washington men and women are diagnosed with colon cancer every year.
That nearly 1,000 will die annually.
That nine of 10 diagnoses are in people over age 50.
That colon cancer is one of the most easily detected cancers.
That we the people can eliminate deaths from colon cancer by screening.

Therefore I declare and pledge:

To join the campaign to end colon cancer deaths in Washington.
To get myself screened if I am over age 50 or if I carry higher than normal risk for the disease.
To ask my friends and family to follow my example, join the campaign, be screened and help educate all Washingtonians about our cause.
